A day in Dragør
Wondering what to see in Dragør and how much you can fit into one day? Here’s our suggestion for a cozy day in this charming coastal town – all within easy walking distance.
10 AM - Breakfast on Kongevejen
Start your day with a cup of coffee and a Danish classic, BMO (a bun with cheese), at Café Hallöy or Den Gamle Bager on Kongevejen. It's just a 3–5 minute walk from the bus stop (Dragør Stationsplads) or the harbor parking lot (Færgevej 12).
11 AM – The Old Town
Take a walk through Dragør’s picturesque Old Town, known for its yellow houses, hollyhocks, and cobblestone streets.
Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, browse the small shops along Kongevejen, and soak up the historic charm of streets lined with houses from the 1700s and 1800s.
12:30 PM – Lunch by the Harbor
Dragør’s maritime history as a skipper and pilot town is still felt today. Admire the iconic Pilot Tower (Lodstårnet) and enjoy lunch with a view of the Øresund at Café Espersen or the Dragør Sailing Club.
While you're at the harbor, explore Skurbyen – a unique row of old fishing huts that still retain their authentic character.
Kids can try crab fishing at the Krabbebroen, and at the Dragør Museum, you can dive into the town’s proud seafaring past.
1:30 PM – Beach Walk or a Dip in the Sea
From the harbor, stroll past Dragør Fort toward the unique, protected coastal meadows of Sydstranden (South Beach).
If you’re in the mood for a treat, grab an ice cream from Dragør Is or Vaffelbageren along the way.
If the weather’s nice, take a swim at Søbadet, the local bathing facility, or let the kids splash in the shallow waters and soft sand at Mormorstranden (“Grandma’s Beach”).
Walk past the Gåserepublikken (Goose Republic) to see the town’s traditional duck pens, or continue along the beach meadows to enjoy this special natural area and its rich birdlife. You might even spot colorful kitesurfers out on the water.
3:00 PM – Store Magleby and the Amager Museum
Take a short trip to the beautiful, well-preserved village of Store Magleby – just a 5-minute drive or under 3 km away – and visit the Amager Museum.
Store Magleby is also known as “The Dutch Village” because of the Dutch farmers who settled here in the 1500s. The museum showcases their rich cultural heritage with traditional laws, clothing, and customs.
In the museum’s lush farmhouse garden, you’ll find dahlias, root vegetables, and cabbages – grown just like in centuries past. These early Dutch settlers once sold produce at markets in Copenhagen.
Don’t forget to greet the museum’s pigs and goats – they’re always ready for a pat during the warmer months.
