Visit the old pilot station

Experience the authentic pilot station at Dragør Harbour, where time seems to stand still. Step into the world of the harbour pilots surrounded by original sea charts, books, logbooks and maritime tools.

A glimpse into the life of a harbour pilot

The museum preserves Dragør’s old pilot station exactly as it looked in 1984. Explore the lounge, offices and chart room filled with original books, maps and pilot guides.

Upstairs, you’ll find the kitchen, sleeping quarters and boatmen’s rooms overlooking the iconic pilot tower. Each room tells the story of a profession built on patience, expertise and responsibility, where the pilots played a crucial role in navigating ships safely through the Øresund Strait.

Dangerous waters

For centuries, Øresund has been one of the most important waterways connecting the Baltic region with the rest of the world.

The waters can be difficult to navigate for those unfamiliar with them, and local sailors made a living guiding ships safely through the strait.

Preserving a pilot boat

The boat Ravnen is an important part of Dragør’s maritime heritage. In 2018, volunteers began an extensive restoration project in collaboration with Museum Amager and the Danish Ship Preservation Foundation.

The restoration takes place in an open workshop where visitors can follow the process and learn more about the history of pilotage in Dragør.

Ravnen – the pilots’ trusted companion

Built to handle everything from calm seas to strong winds, Ravnen was an essential tool for the pilots.

Its speed and manoeuvrability ensured that pilots could safely reach ships of all sizes and begin each mission with precision and confidence.
